High Blood Pressure Treatment

Untreated high blood pressure can lead to strokes, clogging of the arteries, heart attacks, kidney failure and other severe illnesses. High blood pressure (hypertension) means your heart is working harder than it should to pump blood and your arteries are stressed, which will need high blood pressure treatment.

If you don’t deal with it responsibly and lower high blood pressure you could be counted with one of the thousands of people around the world who also suffer with high blood pressure and the debilitating illnesses that go with it.  Unfortunately, more often than not, there are few or no noticeable high blood pressure symptoms. That is why high blood pressure is known as the Silent Killer.

Don’t run away with the idea that middle-aged and older people are the only groups who can have high blood pressure.  All age groups can experience high blood pressure, including children. Ensure you and your family have your blood pressure checked on a regular basis, usually every three months.  If you don’t have your blood pressure checked and do in fact have high blood pressure, you could run the risk of premature death, and you wouldn’t be aware that high blood pressure treatment was necessary.

Of course high blood pressure can be treated and can be controlled with the correct high blood pressure treatment. There are drugs such as Lisinopril and Bendroflumethiazide and many others that your doctor can prescribe for high blood pressure, but as with all medicines they can have side-affects.

Then there are natural and homely remedies for high blood pressure treatment.

  •  Magnesium is a mineral, which helps to relax the muscle tissue.  Magnesium should be taken alongside Calcium and the supplements should be taken a few hours apart, preferably with food.  Quite often pregnant women experience high blood pressure and Magnesium Citrate has been proven to reduce the high blood pressure. However it is important that all pregnant should consult with their doctor.  Another form of Magnesium is Magnesium Gluconate, which is gentler on the digestive system.  However as with all supplements or alternative medicine you should consult your medical practitioner.
  • Omega-3 and fish-oil helps in the prevention of the narrowing of the arteries.  The supplements derive from oily fish such as sardines, fresh salmon or tuna and mackerel.  Two doses a day of 1000mg encourage good circulation and help lower your High Blood Pressure.
  • Flaxseed oil or flax seeds are another good source for high blood pressure.  Flaxseed oil or flax seeds also aid in dry joints, dry skin, dry eyes and dry mouth.
  • Not only is Garlic good for the system when used in cooking or eaten raw on its own or in salads but Garlic capsules as a supplement are not only good in helping to lower high blood pressure but considered by some as more people friendly!
  • The simple Hawthorn extract may take a few months to build up in the system, but it seems to work and helps dilate the arteries.  However if you are taking medicine, which has been prescribed by your medical practitioner you should consult with that particular person before taking Hawthorn as a high blood pressure treatment.  The normal dosage of Hawthorn is 150mg per day.

Controlling high blood pressure is not only about treatment but to bring high blood pressure under control and keep it under control it is necessary to adopt a healthy lifestyle and eat a sensible high blood pressure diet.

Make sure you take plenty of exercise every day.  Take the time to go for a brisk walk.  If you don’t swim already, then consider joining a club or going to the local swimming baths once or twice a week.  Even buy a bicycle and take up cycling, but do build up exercise gradually.  Remember you don’t want high blood pressure but if you have already got high blood pressure, you will need high blood pressure treatment.

If you are a heavy drinker, cut back on alcohol and allow yourself only one unit a day for women and two units a day for men. Heavy drinkers are prone to high blood pressure.

As part of your high blood pressure treatment eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables every day.  Fruit and vegetables contain potassium, fibre and magnesium which are good for your arteries.  Cut down on fatty and sugary food.  Eat fish two or three times a week, especially oily fish.  Also try porridge for breakfast because it helps to lower blood pressure.

If you are a smoker, it is in your interests to give it up. Smoking is bad for anyone and even more so for those with high blood pressure.

There are also other high blood pressure treatments, which you should make yourself aware of, so let me help you all the way.
